Born-Free Video Controversy
As you may have all noticed, M.I.A. is not only an artist, fashion designer, record producer, and song writer. She is also a political activist, and she left it very clear on her new song. Well not so new since it has been out for a couple of months. The video to "Born-Free" has some shocking images of a red headed little boy being murder, shot to the head. People freaked out with that scene. Why? That's what I ask myself. Some say that it was "disturbing seeing a child being murder," but he is an actor! Who btw has been denyed from other acting job due to his participation in this video. The excuse other producer gave him was, "nobody wants to see a kid who has just being cruelly murder." Going back to the subject, others say she was "promoting racism and discrimination by murdering red-heads." WTF! that was my reaction to those ignorant comments. This video is very ambiguous and it is made that way so you can create your own moral from it. In my personal opinion I believe it was made with such violent scenes so people can realize things like these do happen in the real world. You might not see it around "your world," but that is someone else's world and things like this happen everyday. This video not only exposed us to a different view of political issues, but it also created art by connecting good, evil, man, self, government, and moral ethics. Kudos to M.I.A.!
Here is the video, which btw the song is very catchy with its electro jungle and dancehall mix to it. Please leave what you gained from the video or what is your personal opinion.
